PeopleShop is fully compliant with the High Level Architecture (HLA) and Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) protocols for distributed simulation. Full HLA and DIS compliance allows PeopleShop to build networkable simulations -- including man-in-the-loop trainers and invisible tracking cameras -- and to seamlessly integrate with third-party systems.

The first step in any simulation is selecting the environment, including terrain, buildings, roads, rivers, lakes, etc. The sample environemnt model to the right is the McKenna MOUT urban combat training facility at Fort Benning, Georgia.

Human characters make the simulation come to life. Each character is customizable by clothing, equipment, body type, gender, etc.

Each of the selected human characters is now placed into the environment with the behavior of each character being graphically specified.

In the diagram to the right, the yellow and red lines and regions are user specified locations, travel directions, and personalities.

With the environment, characters, and behaviors specified everything is ready to go! Simulation can proceed in several ways.

The simulation can be viewed from any angle, using the chase camera feature, or even through the eyes of any character! At any point during the actual simulation the environment, characters, or behavior can be modified. This provides interactive debugging and improvement control unobtainable using other simulation tools.
